The title of this item tells the whole story without even having to read the article: "Oil industry awash in record levels of cash".
It's July 21 and I've been trying since before last Christmas to find the extra money to afford the higher gas prices to take a 1000 mile round trip to see my 87yr old mother. Our government won't tax the rich assholes in this country to pay for their oil war, but we are made to pay this outrageous 'tax' to the oil companies so that: “They have so much profit, it’s almost an embarrassment of riches. They don’t know what to do with it."
Let me ask you this: Wouldn't you rather pay a higher tax to government to fund the infrastructure, schools, medical research, even the military so our soldiers have protection in their vehicles when they are sent to die on foreign soil than pay these oil companies their overblown and protected prices? If you voted for GW Bush, this is what you voted for, you know. And here's the coup d'grace: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8132231/, EIA forecasts higher crude oil, gas prices. No reason given except a 'perception' of 'imbalances of light product market'. Whatever the sam-hell that means. Maybe it means that fewer people can afford to buy as much gas so they have to charge more for it to make the expected profit line this and next quarter. If you voted for GW Bush, you asked for this. These are his cronies, his buds. They put him where he is, not you. Not really. Whatever money you contributed to his campaign matters not compared to the millions given by the oil companies in order to make this their administration. Bought and paid for.
So while I sit here on my dead sister's birthday, the only comfort I can give my mother is a phone call because I just flat can't afford the trip to see her. Thank you republicans, Dubya and all the lying bullshit that made this possible.
